On Sunday, March 20th, more than one hundred members of our community took to the streets to celebrate peace in State College’s first ever Palm Sunday Peace Walk.

The Peace Walk was created by several local faith leaders with the hope of building a participatory community event bringing together Happy Valley’s diverse Christian community to notice and acknowledge the many organizations working for peace. More than 10 local congregations were represented in the participants, who pledged to continue this event in coming years.

The Peace Walk visited Community Help Centre, Women’s Resource Center, Housing Transitions, State College Police Department, Hearts for Homeless, and Penn State to hear stories about how those organizations were serving the people Jesus urged us to serve; the poor, the sick, the isolated, the downtrodden and imprisoned. At each stop, faith leaders from State College offered a prayer of blessing for the work being done to create peace.

This 1.2 mile walk started at 3pm with a short program at University Baptist & Brethren Church and ended at Faith United Church of Christ for a simple soup meal and conversation together after the walk was complete.
