Onward State Article, December 11, 2015

Local church leaders in the State College area penned an open letter to the Penn State Muslim Students Association and the Islamic Society of Central Pennsylvania. The letter includes a form to co-sign in support of the message, and the long list of supporters includes Jim Rosenberger, president of the State College Borough Council.

The authors of the letter say that it is in response to xenophobic comments fromPresidential Candidate Donald Trump and Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., who told his student body to arm themselves against Muslims.

After remarks by presidential hopeful Donald Trump earlier this week regarding Muslims, a group of people in one community are coming together to show their support.

Local church leaders in State College posted an open letter online denouncing Trump’s comments about stopping Muslims from immigrating into the United States, as well as Liberty University president Jerry Falwell, Jr’s comments urging students on his campus to carry guns to protect themselves.

The letter, signed by pastors, council members, and members in the community, was written for the Penn State Muslim Student Association and the Islamic Society of Central Pennsylvania.

Penn State Getting to Zero Climate Letter, December 2, 2015

Today, a small group of citizens delivered a letter to Penn State’s administration, asking them to put together a plan to get to zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest. The letter, initially signed by 48 faculty, staff, and one student became a petition signed by over 7,100 people including the initial signatories. “Come to the Table” Service Retreat in Pittsburgh, Nov. 6-7 2015

On a bit of a last minute whim, I took the opportunity to attend a 24-hour service retreat, excited for the opportunity to learn about food justice in Pittsburgh. We arrived at the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community around 8:30pm and were met by the church’s building manager, Dylan. After showing us to our lodging, he shared with us about the church’s history and ministry.
